TPMS Micromobility Device Permit

Dear Parents/Guardians,
At Twin Peaks Middle School, we support students who choose to ride a bike, e-bike, scooter, or skateboard to school as a healthy and eco-friendly option. Responsible students who live a reasonable distance from school and have parent/guardian permission may ride to and from campus. To ensure safety for all students and staff, please review and follow these expectations:
General Safety & Legal Guidelines
- Under California law, bicycles and e-bikes are legal vehicles. Riders must follow all traffic laws.
- A properly fitted helmet, with the chin strap fastened, is required when riding any vehicle.
- Only one rider per bike. Passengers are prohibited unless the bike is factory-designed for a second rider with their own seat and helmet. This rule applies especially in front of the school.
- Riders must dismount and walk when entering campus or traveling through school walkways or parking lots.
- The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bikes, scooters, skateboards, or accessories.
On-Campus Parking & Permit Process
- Bikes and e-bikes must be parked in the designated, locked enclosure. Students must use their own lock.
- Riders must complete the school’s one-hour safety training, pass a safety quiz, and submit the registration form below each school year.
- A school-issued permit sticker must be clearly displayed on the main frame of the bike or e-bike to park on campus.
- The school is not responsible for any damages or theft.
Safe Riding Expectations & Accountability
To keep our campus safe and welcoming for everyone, students are expected to ride responsibly at all times — on campus, around the school, and in the community. Please review the following guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful riding culture:
- Class 3 e-bikes (those that exceed 20 mph or do not have pedals), and e-bikes without pedals are not permitted on campus.
- Riding is not allowed on sidewalks or within school grounds during school hours, including lunch and passing periods.
- Riders must avoid unsafe or reckless behavior near school, especially during arrival and dismissal. Safety is a shared responsibility.
- All bikes and e-bikes must have a visible school-issued permit sticker. Bikes without stickers may be secured by staff until a student meets with an administrator. Repeat issues will require parent involvement.
Supportive Response to Safety Concerns
When expectations are not followed, we focus on education, reflection, and accountability. The following steps help reinforce safety and responsibility:
-
1st Occurrence: Verbal reminder and review of expectations
-
2nd Occurrence: Student conference with staff and written reflection
-
3rd Occurrence: Student and parent conference; possible contact with law enforcement
-
4th Occurrence: Parent meeting and possible loss of campus riding privileges
Note: The privilege of parking or bringing a bike, e-bike, scooter or skateboard on campus may be revoked by administration if a student does not obey the above, or other reasonable safety rules and regulations.
